i am legend: opening and closing scene

Opening Scene- I am Legend

Crane shot of city that is abandoned and desolate very eye catching establishing shot to almost set the tone for the film, this is very common for post apocalyptic films to do these establishing shots to show the audience how hard it is in order to survive in a post apocalyptic world. The close up of man holding the gun however as its a mid shot, close up it doesn't reveal identity adds a lot of mystery to who this man is however interestingly analysing the fact that the main protagonist is black adds a new dimension to the film as they can explore new ways in which stereotypically black people act and also add humour to a film which depicts a harsh reality. Mid shot of main protagonist (Will Smith) while he is driving a mustang shows his power as its a cobra mustang which is one of the most powerful American muscle cars however its isn't very economic, also it can be seen that he is almost driving his own future, along with this there is no dialogue only the rustling of leaves and the car sound creating and emphasising the ominous silence. Close up of dog which establishes the protagonists companion which is interesting as dogs are seen as a mans best friend. The medium shot of the boot of the car tracking it almost is symbolic that we will be on this journey with them. POV shot of someone in the back seat which creates an immersive experience and with the birds flying across and the deer ruining out in front of the car shows the stereo type of the mans skill in driving. Low angled tracking shot of drift showing more driving skills but also how desolate the city such as New York is very oxymoronic. Close up of 'god still loves us' poster still symbolises that religious element that is associated with post apocalyptic films.

Closing Scene- I am Legend

In the closing scene of I am legend, post the zombies attacking his house, the camera angles of the scenes when fighting happens in the house are low angled as it adds more elevation to the scenes as the zombies attack like animals stalking their prey like monkeys as they attack from a high perch and pin their prey to the round and these angles complement this action perfectly as we always see the zombie before the main protagonist does. A quite brilliant shot in these scenes is the POV rifle shot of the main character trying to find the zombie this is sheer brilliance as it feels like your in a game of call of duty and immerses you in the action and almost leads the audience to think of all the possible outcomes that can happen and the flashlight only lighting up a certain section adds more tension to the sequence. In the climax of the closing scene the zombies trying to break into the medical facility as the main protagonist tries to reason with them as human beings however they are to far past bringing them back despite saying they have a cure they seem to ignore him and go for the hunt or kill so to speak. However for a split moment  where the zombie has broken the glass and its cracks resemble a pair of wings that's almost angelic as this is almost their serenity when the grenade goes off in the ultimate sacrifice. However the closing scene of the film is where the main protagonists entourage find that safe heaven that is what to expect from a post apocalyptic film as its finding that relief from what you have been through and can find a cure which what was the main plot of I am legend to do.
